Last friday, after two weeks of airbnbs, me and my brother finally got the keys to our new apartment. I still fell a little wonder at the fact that we managed to find one that was both well-located, spacious (with a little kind-of-yard for the dogs!), in good condition and also cheap.
Of course, now that the excitement of the move has settled, I can see the small problems - not enough power outlets (and they're all the old two-prong type, which Brasil abandoned a few years ago in favor of three prongs, so we already had to switch a few of them); lots of noise from the street, since we are located on the very first unit at ground level; the windows got painted with the landlord special, so some can't even close properly because of the paint on the hinges; the toilet is crammed against a wall, even though the bathroom itself is huge, so it's not super comfortable; the sink and cabinets in the kitchen are old and have some weird stains that I couldn't get out (also, who makes kitchen furniture without a single drawer??); the worst of all, there is barely any cellphone reception inside the apartment.
But still, these are all little things (except for the absolute lack of signal, but we got our optic fiber set up today, so yay for wi-fi), and we are slowly fixing it. The rest of the week will be for cleaning and setting up the new furniture as it gets delivered.
On friday will be the acceptance ceremony for my new job. All available intel indicates that it will be super boring, but I'm still excited for it. Months of waiting, and it's finally here! Also, I need the money lol. Moving is so expensive, specially when you need to get all new furniture and appliances.
Oh, and then on saturday my parents arrive with our dogs, so thats another thing to look up for, even with the unavoidable criticism for the thousand little things that we did differently from what my mother would do.
In general, I'm trying to become a new person here on Rio, nad this morning I begun by eating a bunch of fruit for breakfast. ALso, writing on here, both to write a little and force myself to engage with the present. Baby steps and all that.
